The best places to eat on lake lanier featuring the ahi tuna from fish tales and the smoked chicken nachos from pig tales

The 7 Restaurants on Lake Lanier

Living right by Lake Lanier means we spend all summer on the boat. While out on the water, you just want to relax with a great meal and a strong drink in hand. Here are the 7 spots on the lake where you can get just that! Let us know what you think about these restaurants in the comments.

Skogies

Mimosas on Lake Lanier

Looking for brunch on Lake Lanier and early morning cocktails? Skogies is going to be the place to go to! With an expansive menu with options for everyone, Skogies is open for the season after some ambiance updates. Located in Gainesville Marina, this is the only lakefront restaurant north of Browns Bridge. There are parking options available for boats and cars. Start your day with a mimosa in the fresh air at Skogies.

Twisted Oar

Twisted Oar is the go-to spot for Lake Lanier locals. The classic lake meals include fried seafood, sandwiches, and tacos. One thing special about The Twisted Oars menu is the Pizza! This is the only spot on the lake you can grab a pizza and beers for the family. According to Yelp, The Twisted Oar is described as “a party” all summer long. Check out The Twisted Oar located in Holiday Marina.

Pelican Pete’s

Pelican Pete’s in Gainesville Georgia on Lake

One of our personal favorites, Pelican Pete’s gives the best energy and chillest vibes. Known for the “Coldest Beer on Draft” on Lake Lanier, Pelican Pete’s has delicious food and completely outdoor seating. The outdoor seating makes this one of the best spots on the lake to bring a dog. As of this writing, Pelican Pete’s has not opened for the season because they are undergoing renovations. We are so excited for them to open back up for summer so we can try out the new menu and check out the new space! Check out Pelican Pete’s located at Port Royale.

Pig Tales

Chicken Nachos from Pig Tales at Aqualand Marina on Lake Lanier in Flowery Branch, Georgia

The go to for most Lake Lanier visitors and Flowery Branch natives. Fun Fact: In high school, Zach worked here for a summer so every time we go we see familiar faces! This is one of two barbecue restaurants on the lake so try them both and pick your favorite. My favorite item on the menu is the Smoked Chicken Nachos and the meal Zach gets every time is the Chicken Club Tacos with a side of fries. Pig Tales also has a full bar and offers rum buckets, and those are recommended to be shared with another person. Check out Pig Tales located in Aqualand Marina.

Fish Tales

Seared Tuna from Fish Tales on Lake Lanier

Fish Tales is our go to for a date night on the lake. As one of the five lakefront dining options with a gas dock, they make it so easy to fill up you boat or jet ski then park and go grab a delicious bite to eat. My favorite thing ever at Fish Tales is actually something you don’t have to order, the Cuban Bread with Guava Butter. Just typing the name of it makes my mouth water. The menu feature some finer fare for the typical lake restaurant. With lots of seafood options, there are also some great handhelds for a more casual meal. If you are dining with children, be sure to take advantage of the sand box! Check out Fish Tales located in Hideaway Marina.

Smokey Q Barbecue

We haven’t had the opportunity to try this one yet but hope to this summer! From what we’ve heard and read on their website, Smokey Q features authentic barbecue with gorgeous lake views. The outdoor seating makes it a great spot for those summer nights. Of the restaurants on Lake Lanier, Smokey Q is the only one located in Cumming, Georgia and it is also the most casual. Order at the counter with walls covered in history and decor. According to the exterior sign, Smokey Q features “BBQ from Flavor Heaven”. Check out Smokey Q BBQ located in Bald Ridge Marina.

Landshark Bar & Grill at Margaritaville

Are you and your friends spending the day on the lake but not really on the water? Margaritaville at Lanier Islands Water Park offers so much fun for its visitors. You can also buy a day pass to park at their boat dock and party with strangers. Hungry after a day in the sun? Take a walk up the dock to Landshark Bar and Grill. This isn’t your average lakefront fare. The food, service, and atmosphere brings an air of luxury and vacation. When you visit Landshark, you feel like you are being transported to a beach far away from life’s responsibilities. According to the reviews, get the Fish Tacos and finish your meal off with a slice of Key Lime Pie.
