If there's one thing I love more than a good thrift store, it's an antique shop where I can spend hours looking at things I absolutely do not need but suddenly cannot live without.
Welcome back to another installment of Secondhand & Sips, my little series where I take you along to some of my favorite secondhand shopping spots and the coffee shops I visit along the way.
This time, I was meeting up with a friend for an afternoon of antiquing in Downtown Gainesville, Georgia. And naturally, we had to grab a little caffeine before getting down to business.
The best part? Our coffee stop was literally right across the street from the antique shop. We love a convenient little outing.
First Stop: Meadowlark Coffee in Downtown Gainesville
Before we started hunting for treasures, we made our way to Meadowlark Coffee, one of the cutest little coffee shops in Downtown Gainesville.
If you haven't been to Meadowlark yet, it's definitely worth checking out, especially if you're someone who appreciates a good seasonal coffee menu.
They make their own house syrups, regularly switch things up with seasonal drinks, and even sell coffee beans if you want to bring a little of the experience home.
It's a smaller space with limited seating, so I especially love it for grabbing a coffee to go while exploring downtown. You can even order ahead online, which makes it super convenient when you've already got plans.
And since our next stop was right across the street, it couldn't have worked out better.
Coffee secured. Time to go antiquing!
Next Stop: Out of the Cedar Chest Antiques
Now, if you love antique shopping in North Georgia, Out of the Cedar Chest in Gainesville, GA needs to be on your radar.
I've been here multiple times, and I swear I find something new to obsess over every single visit.
First of all, this place is MASSIVE.
We're talking two absolutely enormous levels packed with antiques, vintage pieces, collectibles, furniture, home decor, and all sorts of unexpected finds.
It's the kind of place where you walk in thinking you'll browse for a few minutes and suddenly realize you've spent an entire afternoon wandering around.
And honestly, that's exactly how I like it.
One of the things that caught my attention this time was a Star Wars desk. I mean, how iconic is that?!
That's what makes antiquing so much fun to me. You never know whether you're going to stumble across a beautiful vintage piece, something completely ridiculous, or an item that immediately makes you think of someone you know.
We were on the hunt for treasures, and boy did we find some.
I love coming here because there's just SO much to look through. Whether you're decorating your home, hunting for vintage collectibles, or simply enjoy looking at interesting old things, there's plenty to keep you entertained.
And with two levels to explore, I'd definitely recommend giving yourself plenty of time.
The Perfect Downtown Gainesville Afternoon
One of my favorite things about this particular Secondhand & Sips adventure is how easy it is to recreate.
You don't need an elaborate itinerary, reservations, or even a huge budget.
Just grab a friend, pick up a coffee from Meadowlark, and walk across the street to explore Out of the Cedar Chest.
It's such a fun way to spend a few hours in Downtown Gainesville, especially if you're looking for something a little different from your usual lunch or shopping plans.
And even if you don't walk away with anything, I can almost guarantee you'll find something interesting to talk about.
Honestly, sometimes the treasure hunt itself is the best part.
Where Should We Go Next?
I'm having way too much fun combining two of my favorite things into one series, and there are still so many thrift stores, antique shops, and coffee shops around North Georgia and Metro Atlanta that I want to explore.
If you've got a favorite secondhand shopping spot or a coffee shop that deserves a visit, send it my way!
And if you're looking for more local recommendations, weekend activities, and hidden gems around North Georgia, keep following along with NorthMetroEateries.
Until next time, happy thrifting and sipping!
